Muhammad Shafiq received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, in 2014. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology, University of Vaasa, Vaasa, Finland, where he has been with the Smart Electric Systems Research Group since 2017. From 2002 to 2009, he was a Lecturer and an Assistant Professor with the University College of Engineering and Technology, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur, Pakistan. He has been associated as a Researcher with the industrial organizations in Finland. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences.

Research Interest

His current research interests include power systems and high voltage engineering, especially condition monitoring of power system components, design of sensors for high-frequency measurements, and diagnostics of dielectric insulation faults in power cables, switchgear, and other network components.
