Biography

Dr. Shih-Wen Hsiao is a distinguished professor in the Department of Industrial Design at the National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, the Republic of China. He was also appointed to the Chairman of this Department from 1998 to 2001. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University in 1990. Before joining the University in 1991, he spent about 13 years in the China Steel Corporation (CSC) as a mechanical design engineer and was promoted to the position of project management engineer before leaving the company. He got the Full Professor of the Department of Industrial Design at the National Cheng Kung University in 1996 and the Distinguished Professor of National Cheng Kung University in 2003. His major research interests include the application of fuzzy set theory on product design, concurrent engineering in product design, computer-aided design, applying neural network, genetic algorithm, and gray theory to product design, color planning for product design, heat transfer analysis, applying aesthetics measurement to product design, and application of reverse engineering in product design. Thus, he has published a lot of papers in the International Journals in the above-mentioned fields. He was profiled in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Asia, Who’s Who in Design, 500 Great Minds of the Early 21st Century, and the 500 most Distinguished Professors & Scholars of the BWW Society in 2002. He got the Outstanding Professor Awards of IAOI (International Association of Organizational Innovation, USA) in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, the Education Leadership Award of CMO Council in 2012, Distinguished Scholar Award of the BWW Society in 2003, National Invention and Creation Award of Taiwan in 2015, Engineering Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Engineers in 2016, and Distinguished Professor Awards of National Cheng Kung University in 2003, 2006, 2011, 2014, and 2017. He also served as an Editorial Board member for 10 international journals and a reviewer at 34 international journals.
